There were hundreds, if not thousands, of aftermarket Slope Nose “conversions” done to Turbo and non-Turbo 911s alike. The quality of these aftermarket conversions ranged from being almost indistinguishable from the real deal to simply horrendous hack jobs. Here at PML we’ve seen a lot of these so-called conversions fall in the latter category. That said, whenever a real one comes on the market it will get our attention – every time.

John Witmer of AIC Auto in Pennsylvania presents this outstanding ‘87 930 Turbo. Finished in the classic Silver over Black leather combination, this example is well maintained and well preserved with only 44k miles on the odometer. It is nicely equipped with full leather Sports Seats, the original Blaupunkt Reno radio, Rear wiper, Ltd slip, 16″ Fuchs Alloys, and a sunroof. A big plus are the sport seats; not all of the Slope Nose optioned Turbos were fitted with them. We think they are an essential element of the whole vintage 930 Turbo experience.

The option sheet on the RS America was short and sweet: Ltd Slip, Radio, Air conditioning, and a Sunroof were the only additions one could obtain. The idea being – of course – to preserve the pure driving experience of a vintage 911.

Victorymotorcars of Houston presents this gorgeous ‘93 Silver over black RS America Coupe. This stunning example has all four options. “RSAs” are highly sought after and thus difficult to come by. This well maintained example has traveled only 37k miles, and looks great. Here’s an excellent opportunity to get into one of the best “pre watercooled” Porsches ever built.

They are a truly unique driving experience different from the normally aspirated 911 of similar vintage. One can drive it around town just like a “regular 911″…but once the tach hits that magic 4000rpm – 4500rpm mark is when the real fun begins. These cars are an absolute hoot when driven properly. 930s are idiosyncratic in their driving characteristics – so we’d have to mention the fact they really aren’t intended for casual drivers. This is a true high performance machine that warrants 100% attention from the driver. The reward being one of the most enjoyable vintage Porsche experiences to be had at this price point.

Sporting the classic color combo of Guard’s Red over Black leather, This car is equipped with the “right stuff”: 4 speed manual transmission, limited slip differential, power sport seats, raised steering hub, sunroof, rear wiper, the original Blaupunkt stereo, books and original window sticker, and – of course – the classic 16″ Fuchs Alloy wheels with black centers. This example has covered only 25,000 miles. Low mileage 930s are extremely hard to come by. If you are looking for a nice, well-maintained 930 Coupe to drive and enjoy, here’s a great candidate.

The 3.2 Carrera replaced the 911SC in ‘84, making this ‘85 an early example. The 3.2 Carrera utilized the venerable 915 transmission through model year ‘86. 1987 was the 1st year of the G50 (950) transmission. The car presented here is a very well maintained example of the breed. The owner is a very passionate individual who really hates having to sell, but would like to see it go to another enthusiast home. The car is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As with any pre-owned Porsche purchase, a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) is highly recommended. It’s priced right and ready to go. If you’re seriously hunting for one of these gems, they’re getting tougher and tougher to find in this condition at this price point. It’s worth a closer look…

Here’s another fine offering from our friend, Paul Kramer. This 2006 997 Carrera S Coupe features the very comfortable – and tough to find – adaptive Sports Seats. It also features a Tiptronic S transmission, High-end Bose Sound, and a Nav system. All this adds up to a car you can just get in and go somewhere. Tiptronic – equipped 997s are comfortable cars to drive both in dense traffic as well as out in the twisties.

From Paul Kramer:

With the launch of the 997 Porsche (911 replacement), it was widely recognized by the automotive world as not only the best 911 ever built, but also more true to the original 911 design. The wide fenders and separate headlight buckets made the car look like a natural continuation of the 993 Porsches. And, sales have shown their popularity. The 997 model is one of the best selling 911s ever.

Great Porsche…great owner! This is the best way to describe this car. The owner purchased this car new and spared no expense custom ordering it. With an MSRP over $108,000, there is very little this 997 doesn’t have.

The owner is an active Early 911 enthusiast who was very specific in the options he wanted. Personally, this is exactly how I would order one.

Options include the following:

Paint to Sample Mexico Blue

Black Full Leather

Adaptive Sport Seats with Leather

Instrument Dials in Black

Tiptronic S

Self Dimming Mirrors

Rear Window Wiper

Park Assist System

Sport Chrono Package Plus

Module for Telephone PCM

Navigation for PCM

Bose High End Sound Package

Remote 6-Disc CD Changer

Black Mats with Porsche Lettering

Sport Exhaust System

Metal Door Sill Model Insignia

Aluminum Look Package Switch Panel

Console Painted to Match Exterior

This is a great chance to buy a pampered car that is near new for nearly 50% off its price new.

Plus, with the 100,00-mile warranty good until October 2011, this is a worry-free purchase.

All owner’s manuals/books and keys are included.

Magnus Walker is passionate and serious about early Porsches. He has just completed an extensive restoration of a ‘66 911. His goal was to build a lightweight R inspired sports purpose SWB car – the type of car that was raced by the Porsche factory in the mid 60’s (think early Vic Elford). The current weight of the car is 2065 lbs with half a tank of gas; it has been lowered to 23.5” rear -24” front, corner balanced, & aligned. The set up includes 22 & 30 mm torsion bars,19 mm front & rear adjustable sway bars,& adjustable spring plates, along with Koni adjustable shocks. The car rides on 15 x 6 fuchs with Yokohama S drive 205/55/15 tires. Although not the original 2.0 liter motor{# 907533}; Walker was almost able to find “the needle in the haystack” with engine # 907540 which according to the Porsche C.O.A is only 7 engines from the original in the car & was perhaps built the same day!! An extensive detailed build sheet of his restoration is below.

That car sold pretty quickly afterwards…

So, here we are again with another street/track setup. An ‘81 911 SC Coupe. This one is from Mohr Imports of Monterey, California. They have an asking price of $14,900. That’s chump change when it comes to getting into a street/track-prepped Porsche 911. Since we haven’t seen this car in the metal, we’re guessing it’ll require additional attention before being considered truly track ready…One can easily spend again the asking price getting this car properly setup and still be light years ahead of the game. There is absolutely no way one can build a street/track 911 from scratch for this small amount of money. That said, this car looks like a great starting point for some serious fun on the track.

Guards Red over Black.Stock mechanicals. No accident history. Chain tensioner update. No oil leaks. Paint is excellent. No rust on the car. Gaps are correct. Interior is very clean. A/C works -blows cool but not cold. Compressor is good. All guages work. Defroster, Power windows and Sunroof are in good order.

Racing equipment:

The car then changed hands from ‘05 to present. Excellent running and driving car. Engine is strong. No smoke. Great gearbox (good syncros in all gears) and clutch. The car has a very solid and tight feel. Runs great at freeway speeds or in town driving.

From the PML Technical Archives:

“The Porsche 993 is the company’s internal name for the version of the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold between late 1993 and early 1998, replacing the 964. Its discontinuation marked the end of air-cooled Porsches.

One of the changes in the 993 over preceding 911s is the implementation of an all-alloy multi-arm rear suspension attached to an all-alloy subframe. It required the aforementioned widening of the rear wheel arches, which itself helped the 993’s stability. This suspension improved the 993’s cornering abilities, making it more direct and more stable and helping to reduce the tendency to oversteer if throttle was lifted during hard cornering, a trait of earlier 911s. It also reduced interior noise and improved ride quality.”

“The 993 was the first 911 to have a standard six-speed manual transmission; previous cars, except for the Porsche 959, had 4- or 5-speed gearboxes. In virtually every situation, it was possible to keep the engine in its best torque range above 4500 rpm.”

“The 993’s optional all wheel drive system was refined over that of the 964. Porsche departed from the 964’s setup consisting of three differentials and revised the system based on the layout from its 959 supercar, replacing the centre differential with a viscous coupling unit. In conjunction with the 993’s redesigned and recalibrated suspension, this system improved handling characteristics and still retained the stability offered by AWD without having to suffer compromises in understeer. Its simpler layout also reduced the system’s weight.”

“Other improvements include a new dual-flow exhaust, larger brakes with drilled discs, and revised power steering.”
